Working with FFF: hear from past and present freelancers & volunteers
FFF is a small non-profit organisation, with a small core team of full-time staff, but we have a history of working with volunteers and freelancers to help us achieve our mission. FFF has always been a place of like-minded people, doing meaningful work and gaining unique experience in a sector where relevant skills, knowledge & understanding are limited.
Whether it's learning about communications, how to work with partners, or expanding your creative portfolio, working with FFF has helped volunteers and freelancers move on to the next stage in their careers. They are essential to us.
Read on to hear from some of our past and present team members….

Beyond FFF: Operations and Activities Manager, Student Hubs
“I currently work for a youth social action charity who aim to get students engaged in social and environmental issues by the time they graduate, empowering the next generation of active citizens. When I applied for the role, I definitely felt that I had an advantage due to volunteering with FFF. The fact that I could demonstrate that I cared enough about social issues to give up some of my own time to support FFF's work was really valuable. I love being part of the comms team: while the flexibility and remote nature means that it's easy to fit around other commitments, it is also an important part of FFF's work that I feel I can add value to.”

Beyond FFF: Impact Development Manager, Seismic
There are a number of key areas that my work with FFF has benefitted my career in the sustainability sector. It has given me knowledge and confidence around some of the important topics and drivers in the sector. It has also evidenced my clear enthusiasm and passion for the subject which has shaped many conversations in interviews and the roles that I have worked in. In addition, I have been able to develop some key skills which have been translated into successful impacts at the roles I have had.

Beyond FFF: Development Officer, Keep Scotland Beautiful
Volunteering with FFF was a fantastic opportunity to connect with like minded people and have the opportunity to be able to make a difference in the football and sustainability sector. It also helped to confirm that working to support the sport sector with climate action is where I want to be and helped to develop skills I have taken forward into my current job role. I particularly enjoyed working on sustainability projects for football clubs and also supporting the education team.

Beyond FFF: freelance content consultant
It's given me an alternative perspective of what work could and should be about. I'd always been tuned into a traditional work mode - 5 days a week for the same company, which I'd tend to get bored of after a couple of years and have to move on. Helping with FFF showed me how important it was to spend time on something of value. This has led to me completely changing the way I approach work - I still need to focus for a few days a week to pay the bills, but I now set aside dedicated time to work on projects that matter to me.

Beyond FFF: freelance videographer
Volunteering for FFF introduced me to many different people and figures across sustainability and sport and allowed me to stay close to meaningful and positive work as I progressed in the sports media landscape.
