Last week, our Founder Elliot Arthur-Worsop had the pleasure of chairing a panel discussion on “Tackling Sustainability in Sport” at University College London (UCL).
This panel was part of the UCL Sustainability Leadership Conference, a 3-day event which aims to upskill and inspire students of any degree programme to become sustainability leaders in their later careers. The conference took place at the UCL East campus in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The conversation covered the origins of the movement, catalysts for action, the crucial role of athlete advocacy, disruptive ideas, campaigns that have shaped the movement so far, climate justice impacts, and more.
There were great questions from students about climate risk and longevity of new stadiums built near waterways, apparel deadstock, where to host mega sports events in the future to avoid white elephants.
Elliot was joined by Claire Poole (Sport Positive), Alexei Rojas Fedorushchenko (Arsenal F.C) and Freddie Daley (Cool Down - The Sport for Climate Action Network) for the discussion.
It was a great pleasure to be asked by a world-leading university to chair this panel for their inspiring and enthusiastic students, and to bring together leading voices from the sector, including a current professional player.
