Football for Future partner with Sussex County FA

We’re pleased to announce that FFF have partnered with Sussex County FA, to help shed light on the climate crises threatening the beautiful game.

On Wednesday 9 November 2022, FFF’s Elliot Arthur-Worsop and Joel Foreman travelled to SCFA headquarters to deliver a workshop on the ways in which they as an organisation can continue to help drive the message of climate awareness.

We believe this is the first workshop of its kind to be delivered to an English County Football Association.

Workshops like these, which have also been delivered to academy players at Chelsea and staff at Wolverhampton Wanderers, are part of our ongoing mission to make the football fraternity aware of the need to take action on climate change.

The workshop, which fell on the week of COP27, raised awareness of the pressing environmental issues facing football clubs, and saw staff at SCFA engage with the various ways in which football can help empower communities to take action.

Speaking on the partnership, Sussex County FA Chief Executive Officer, Ken Benham said: “Climate change is one of the greatest threats facing football, and we at the Sussex County FA are delighted to partner with Football For Future to help raise awareness of these issues to clubs across the county.

“Here at our HQ, we’ve taken early steps, such as installing solar panels, LED floodlights, and bicycle stands, to help bring down our carbon footprint.

“It was fantastic to bring all our staff together for the workshop delivered by the Football For Future team. It was highly informative, thought provoking, and we look forward to working with them to further improve our own, and Sussex football’s, carbon footprint.”

FFF’s Joel Foreman said:

“It is really important that County Football Associations realise their responsibility and take positive steps towards tackling the climate crisis. We need to see this attitude become more popular across the beautiful game, so we are proud to support SCFA as they begin this journey.

“It’s great to see SCFA working hard to use their platform and influence to make the beautiful game more sustainable.

“We were really impressed with the knowledge and interest from the staff at SCFA during the workshop, and it was great to see so much enthusiasm for change. We’re looking forward to developing this partnership further.”
