This week Sports Positive Leagues has released the EFL 2022 Matrix, which charts the sustainability efforts of clubs in the Championship, League One, and League Two. This new initiative represents the organisation’s efforts to encourage environmental responsibility across all levels of professional football.

FFF were delighted to be invited to deliver a talk on climate action and environmental sustainability in football at the University of Oxford. Barney Weston, Co-Founder and Co-Director of FFF, delivered the talk at the School of Geography and the Environment.

The first weekend of February was the first annual Green Football Weekend. This saw more than 80 football clubs participating in a coordinated action plan to promote environmental sustainability. As well as Wolves launching their One Pack, One Planet pledge, there was fantastic engagement and support across the beautiful game, making GFW the biggest ever weekend for climate awareness in the footballing world.

FFF research has identified at least 60 matches across the English football pyramid postponed due to freezing weather conditions in January.

Wolves have an ambition to be industry leaders in environmental sustainability. Their new sustainability campaign - One Pack, One Planet - seeks to maximise the club’s positive pawprint in the city of Wolverhampton and globally.
